Occupational analysis
An occupational analysis provides information on
the tasks that a person performs within a given occupation.
It also covers:
- the steps involved in the performance of the tasks;
- the conditions of execution of the tasks, illustrated
mainly by the environment, the health risks, the
equipment, material and reference works used, the
main problem areas, etc. with regard to the performance
of the tasks;
- the requirements established for the satisfactory
performance of a task;
- the skills and aptitudes used in the performance
of a function;
- etc.
The draft occupational analysis is developed with
a committee of workers who are experts on the occupation
and a team of facilitators. Together, they identify
all the tasks and characteristics of the occupation.
This initial report is then reviewed by other experts
on the subject. The suggestions made by this group
are evaluated and may be incorporated into the final
document. This exercise makes it possible to identify
the tasks that are common to this occupation throughout
the sector.
In some analyses, the tasks and operations have been
broken down in the form of skills and sub-skills to
be mastered.
